PRIOR YEAR ACTIVITIES OF THE BOARD
Some of the highlights featuring the work of the Medlock Historic Neighborhood Board are important for the homeowners and businesses in and around the neighborhood. The goals of this Board were quite aggressive and the Association has been able to accomplish these goals while spending very little of its limited financial resources.
One of the goals of 2020-22 has been to manage the crime issues with transients in the neighborhood and helping neighbors transient proof their yards.
Lock wifi, manage hose bibs, and be sure there is no place to charge a phone in an alleyway or around a home.
Also we have encouraged being more involved in the front of your home and maintaining the beauty of the neighborhood by keeping off graffiti which is first indication of criminals using the neighborhood for drug sales.
MEETINGS: we are having four neighborhood meetings this year and every other month Board meetings as well to plan new directions for the Board. The Board also set up a formal "Arizona Corporation" for Medlock Place with the Corporation Commission.
COMMUNICATIONS: kept neighborhood informed of meetings, events and issues impacting them via email, website, hand flyers, neighborhood community boards and street sign postings as needed.
*Using our "MailChimp" software to contact neighbors and be sure we are getting new neighbors on the lists.
Kept the website updated and used Twitter and Facebook to keep information flowing into the community about activities in and around Medlock Place.
NEIGHBORHOOD EVENTS
In 2017 a halloween party was held at the home of Jeff Mills on Pasadena Avenue and was well attended by both neighbors and new members and their children. We would like to do more events such as these, however we will need to get more homeowners to voluneer their prooperties for these types of events.
DEVELOPMENT OVERSIGHT:
City Meetings/Development Planning: participated in a city-hosted meetings about our neighborhood character.
Uptown Plaza: continued our great relationships with local developers and owners of Uptown Place, The Newton, and
Upward Projects for updates on their projects and to address neighborhood issues as they do new projects.
Have learned more about the ALIVE ON CAMELBACK hotel that will be built at 444 West Camelback. This project is scheduled to be open in late 2018 and will greatly enhance the streetscape along Camelback and create another barrier from the street transients who have lived under the parking structures for many years.
Monitored new projects on the outskirts of the hood: Blaze Restaurant, The Creamistry, Brewery to open in Uptown Plaza. For the People, a new store on Central, is a great addition for our neighborhood's mid-century modern home decor. Also Lee Laris opened a new Phoenix Skin Spa while DQ.
HISTORIC DESIGNATION PROTECTION: Maintained communication with the city regarding historic designation of homes in the community.
FUND RAISING: The neighborhood has had two garage sales at the Bilbrey's after collecting items from neighbors and more than $1,000 has been raised using this effective method of finding ways to support our treasury. Doug Harter,, Vice President/Treasurer Anne Titlebaum, Secretary Trini Jackson, Pam Woods, Lisa Brown, Bruce Bilbrey
CRIME CONTROL: continued neighborhood vigilance and education to call police of suspicious activities and crimes in progress, and use of Block Watch email communications to the neighborhood to watch for suspicious person/vehicles; maintain an effective relationship with Phoenix PD community action officers for the neighborhood.
Thanks to all the residents and their friends who stepped forward to volunteer their time to assist on the various projects described above and to those who donated financially annual dues (voluntary) to support the work of MedlockPlace HNA.
Your volunteer MedlockPHNA Board of Directors is pleased to serve your neighborhood to make it a great place to Live, Work and Play!

We're proud to live in the Medlock Place Historic Neighborhood and invite you to learn more about how we are making our uptown digs better every day.
Summarizing the Board’s work the past year, they spent countless hours as neighborhood volunteers attending and participating in 24 formal meetings (12 board mtgs, 12 neighborhood mtgs); between meetings conducting work as chairs of their committees; attending city zoning meetings including advocating for neighborhood protections under proposed new commercial zoning, i.e., ReinventPHX,
Walkable Urban Code; opposing incompatible property uses at city hearings, i.e., a new tattoo store (city approved with conditions favorable to n’hood); and advocating viewpoints on desired tenant mix and compatible operations at the Uptown Plaza renovation. Also, kept vigilance for neighborhood impact of nearby proposed housing developments, i.e., Missouri Ave new homes, and proposed new apartments on Central Ave south of Camelback Rd; attended city Historic Preservation hearings (opposing historic home demolition); and lobbied legislators to oppose liquor legislation harmful to the neighborhood.
Further, established strong and collaborative relationships with our legislators, Councilwoman Laura Pastor, Mayor Greg Stanton, city police community action officers, city Neighborhood Services (Lisa Huggins-Hubbard), Historic Preservation (Michelle Dodds) and Transportation Depts. (Kerry Wilcoxon) staff and with “four corner” neighborhoods: Windsor Square, St Francis and Pierson Place neighborhoods.
Also had interesting meeting speakers including from nearby businesses (developers of The Newton, Uptown Plaza, Postinos/Joyride/Federal Pizza), police sex offenders bureau chief, Councilwoman Pastor’s chief of staff, deputy city manager, the U.S. Marshal for Ariz. and candidates for congress and legislature. We even had gift card raffles at end of each mtg to support local restaurants/businesses including Alexis Grill, St. Francis Restaurant Windsor, Postinos, JoyRide
Federal Pizza, AJ’s Market, Great Wall, Phoenix Burrito, Changing Hands Bookstore, Maizie’s Café, The Refuge Coffee & Wine, Phoenix Symphony, Spinato’s Pizzeria and Southwest Gardner.
